What is the Ben-Gurion Fellows Program?
The Ben-Gurion Fellowship is an opportunity for exceptional RootOne alumni—students currently in 10th grade or 11th grade—to study the great ideas and heroic figures of Jewish and Zionist history. Building on your (hopefully) life-changing trip to Israel, the Ben-Gurion Fellowship has two key components:
- A year-long online seminar—taught by some of the world’s leading Zionist thinkers and teachers—that explores the intellectual, political, and cultural history of Israel’s re-birth—from the biblical age to early Zionist movement to the start-up nation. Once the inaugural class of Ben-Gurion Fellows is chosen, we will schedule the weekly online seminar in two semesters: Semester #1 from late February 2022 to April 2022 and Semester #2 from October 2022 to December 2022. In total, there will be 20 online sessions.
- All Ben-Gurion Fellows will participate in the Tikvah Scholars summer residential program at Yale University. The Yale program involves two-weeks of intensive study with 200 exceptional fellow students from around the world. Students choose electives in four key areas: Jewish thought and history, Zionism and modern Israel, Jews and American democracy, and the history of Western civilization. Fellows can choose between Session # 1 (June 27 to July 7, 2022) or Session #2 (July 25 to August 4, 2022).
Who is eligible to apply, and how are Ben-Gurion Fellows selected?
Anyone currently in 10th or 11th grade who participated in the RootOne program in Israel in summer 2021 is eligible. Click here to begin the application process. This is a competitive program, and all candidates will be interviewed and then selected by the Fellowship selection committee.
Which organizations are sponsoring the Ben-Gurion Fellows program?
The Ben-Gurion Fellows program is a partnership between the Tikvah Fund (a Jewish and Zionist educational institution based in New York and Jerusalem), RootOne, and the Jewish Education Project.
What does the program cost?
All Ben-Gurion Fellows receive a scholarship covering most of the educational, housing, and food costs of this intensive online + residential summer program. We ask that Fellows pay $1,000, with need-based financial aid available to ensure that every candidate can participate.
