Membership in the Republic: Teddy Roosevelt on Effective Citizenship

Date: Thursday, Aug. 19 | 7:00–8:15 PM EDT

A healthy democracy is reliant on the virtues and vibrancy of its citizenry. How can “the people” ensure that its voice and values are resonant in policies that are honorable and just? What are components of influential citizenship and how vital are they to a sound government and society? Drawing upon the ideas of Teddy Roosevelt’s “The Duties of American Citizenship” (1883), and others, this seminar will explore what makes for good, courageous, and influential citizens who can help sustain our revered foundational tenets and lead the nation to a better future for all.
