Image for The Jewish Search for God

Mankind has always yearned to somehow perceive God and forge a relationship with Him. Yet the gap between a human being and the Infinite seems to be unbridgeable. How have Jews attempted to explain that not only is such a connection possible but also necessary for a fulfilled life? Throughout the generations many great thinkers have shown the way. From Maimonides and the Kuzari in the Middle Ages to towering Jewish philosophers of the 20th century such as Martin Buber, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, and Rav J.B. Soloveitchik, and non-Jewish thinkers such as Kant and Kierkegaard, this course will trace the paths forged to the Divine and help us tread upon them with a better understanding.
