The Original David and Goliath Story

Date: Thursday, August 12 | 7:00–8:15 PM EDT

The story of David and Goliath is one of the most iconic events in the book of Samuel and arguably the entire Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible. It has come to represent the classic image of the weak and meek vanquishing the mighty and strong. Our class will explore what motivated David to face Goliath when so many feared the great Philistine warrior. Further, we will seek to understand how David’s confrontation and defeat of Goliath contributes to the creation of his unique character and his place within the book of Samuel. Finally, we will explore ways in which David’s heroism can be an inspiration for underdogs of all types in today’s world.
