Judaism, Science, and Technology: Conflict or Confluence?

Modern technology is more than just the sum total of the marvelous devices, inventions and powers that shape our lives today. It is a way of thinking about the meaning and purpose of human life, and our relationship to the world around us. As such, it provides answers to some of the same questions related to how we should live to which our Jewish traditions provide answers. Whether or to what extent these answers are compatible with each other is itself a deeply important and deeply debatable question—and the focus of this seminar. In a world where the power of modern technology sometimes seems out of control, and many find themselves looking for ways to limit its influence, can Jewish thinkers provide us any assistance?
