What is the philosophic life? What truths do philosophers seek to uncover or understand? Why do human beings seek the good? In this seminar course, we will introduce you to the most fundamental philosophical questions by reading two of Plato’s most important dialogues—the Euthyphro and the Apology—alongside sources from the Hebrew Bible and contemporary Jewish writings. Together, we will consider what the philosophic life demands and how it impacts politics, religion, and Jewish self-understanding.
