In Israel, America, and around the world, Jews are facing threats they haven’t had to confront for decades. What is the cause of this rise in anti-Jewish politics? And why are so many liberals and progressives—people who think of themselves as dedicated to fighting hatred and bigotry—so often indifferent to it, or worse, actively supporting it? In this special four-part lecture series, Tikvah Senior Fellow and Harvard Professor Emerita Ruth Wisse carefully examines how liberalism has failed the Jews.

In this series, you’ll learn about:

  • How and why anti-Semitism has exploded in so many liberal societies.
  • The role of Israel in the mind of many Western liberals, and why it is the lynchpin for so much anti-Semitic hatred.
  • The dark side of Holocaust education, and how it has sadly been turned against the Jews
  • A new way for Jews to conceive of their role and goals in Western political life

Professor Ruth R. Wisse is one of our age’s great masters of Jewish letters. She is Martin Peretz Professor of Yiddish Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature Emerita at Harvard and Distinguished Senior Fellow at Tikvah, where she writes regularly for Mosaic, teaches, lectures, and hosts the Stories Jews Tell podcast.

She is also the author of two political studies, If I Am Not for Myself: The Liberal Betrayal of the Jews (1992) and Jews and Power (2007). Her memoir, Free as a Jew: A Personal Memoir of National Self- Liberation was published in 2021.
