Why, in the United States, does Israel serve as a political and cultural litmus test?

Over the course of five seminar meetings, Middle East expert and White House veteran Michael Doran will look at the U.S-Israel relationship as an expression of a larger debate about the character of America—a debate that precedes the Squad and President Trump, that precedes the rise of identity politics, that precedes even the upheavals of the 1960s.
