Leadership and Careers Seminars

Fellows will spend much of their time thinking through classic and contemporary texts and the enduring debates of the Jewish tradition. Grappling with big ideas is essential for leadership in all professions; but just as essential is the development of prudential judgment, knowledge of how the world works and how inspired ideas become manifest in concrete achievements. Practical wisdom must complement great ideas, and practical wisdom cannot be taught at the seminar table. It must be earned in the field of action, where decisions are made in real time and under real pressure.

Throughout the summer, fellows will convene with senior Jewish leaders in the rabbinate, politics, journalism and editing, and academia. These conversations are designed to be intimate, off-the-record discussions about how these men and women originally heard the calling to pursue their careers, the challenges they have faced, and the successes they have earned along the way. Our hope is that fellows are inspired by and able to learn from these living models of excellence in letters and leadership, as a complement to their study of the abiding books of Jewish wisdom
