Reason and Emotion in Jewish Thought

Descartes famously asserted, “I think, therefore I am,” but why didn’t he say “I feel, therefore I am”? Cultures and thinkers throughout the ages have considered the roles of reason and emotion in human experience and debated which should be given primary importance. This seminar will explore the various views and reflect them into your lived experience of reason and emotion. Finally, we’ll also challenge whether the binary of reason versus emotion is quite as simple as we might think.
