The Tikvah Fund is a think tank and educational institution focused on the foundational ideas of Jewish civilization, the great challenges facing the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and the political, moral, and economic traditions of Western civilization and American democracy. Tikvah runs a wide range of initiatives in the United States, Israel, and around the world, including educational programs and fellowships, publications and websites, conferences, and policy research.
Our main interest is challenging exceptional people—from middle school to high school, from gap year to college, from graduate students to full-time professionals—to become Jewish leaders and Jewish citizens. We seek to expose them to the most important ideas—in Jewish thought, Zionist history, political philosophy, economics, and strategy—and to inculcate a sense of responsibility for Jewish, Western, and American civilization. We also offer extensive programming and content for the alumni of our various programs, and we encourage our participants to think about their time with us as the gateway to a larger Tikvah community.
Jewish 11th and 12th graders are invited to apply, regardless of denomination or geographic location. We are looking for high-achieving students, committed to intellectual growth and the development of self, centered around Jewish and Zionist pride.
The Solomon Journal is one of the premier student-led journals in the Jewish world today. It is published three times annually, in both the Fall and Spring. Students work directly with our editors and faculty advisors to publish thoughtful, well-written essays on a topic pertinent to Jewish or Western conversations. Select 12th graders are invited to work as editors, learning an invaluable skill before college.
In an effort to build a stronghold for the study of Jewish and Western thought on the collegiate level, Tikvah has partnered with the Hamilton Center for Classic and Civic Education at the University of Florida. This innovative new college is sure to produce many talented political and educational leaders for years to come. Starting this year, each Solomon Fellow will have the opportunity to learn from the Hamilton Center’s esteemed professors on one of five weekend-long retreats on campus, corresponding to its five majors. This will give Solomon Fellows a taste of what is possible in the pursuit of liberal education at its best.
