From Exodus to AI: a glimpse into Israel’s biggest policy challenges
Modern Israel is known for being the Startup Nation, but below the surface many issues still need to be resolved. In this course we will learn how the Covid-19 Pandemic revealed a weakness at the heart of Israel’s economy, and why Israel actually has two, very different, economies. We will look at the economic history of Israel, and the miracles and failures that led us to where we are. We will also look at Israel’s education system and ask if it lives up to the command “And ye shall teach them your children”. We will see how romantic notions make life more expensive for most Israelis and what we can do to change that. We will talk about poverty, inequality, unions and monopolies, and ask if the Torah wants a welfare state in the state of Israel.
